Events and services

All of the events and services listed on this page are currently suspended because of Coronavirus precautions.  When the position changes or we know more we will advise you on this page.  

In the mean time all the information below is purely hypothetical!

On this page we try to put what is going on: but inevitably it lags behind reality and can't contain everything. Please ring the vicar if you want to know more details. (The weekly activities - School Service (during school terms), Foodbank and Choir Practice - continue each week unless this page says otherwise.)

The rest of March 2020:

Thu 19th: The Foodbank will still be operating but there will be no refreshments or signposting service - instead parcels will simply be handed out at the door. People will still need to get a voucher before food can be issued to them.

Thu 19th: 2pm Prayer Group.

Thu 19th: No Choir Practice as John was to attend the Lay Worship Leaders' course session with our trainees.  In fact that meeting has also been called off, but Choir Practice remains cancelled.

Sat 21st: 10am Coffee Morning.

Sun 22nd: Mothering Sunday (Lent 4). 10am Communion.

Wed 25th: 11.30am Communion.  12.15pm Lunch (Cancelled because of Coronavirus).

Sat 28th: 9am-11am Jumble Sale (Jumble welcome 6pm Friday). (Cancelled because of Coronavirus.)

Sun 29th: Passion Sunday (Lent 5)Clocks forward10am Communion.

Tue 31st: 9am School Easter Service. 

April 2020:

Wed 1st: 11.30am Communion.  12.15pm Lunch.

Sat 4th: 9am Table-Top Sale * and 10am Coffee Morning.

Sun 5th: Palm Sunday. 8am Communion, 10.30am Family Service.  3pm The Ark ** at St John's Ben Rhydding.

Mon 6th: 7.30pm Mothers' Union: "My trip to a Ugandan Orphanage" Christine Pitts.

(No School Service on Tuesdays 7th and 14th during the school Easter holidays.)

Wed 8th: 11.30am Communion.  12.15pm Lunch.

Thu 9th: Maundy Thursday. 5.30pm Pie and Peas Supper, followed by 6.30pm Communion with handwashing.

Fri 10th: Good Friday. 2.30pm Prayers at Bolton Methodist Church, followed by a "Walk in the Footsteps of Jesus" to St Francis' Roman Catholic Church (Norman Lane, Eccleshill), in time for United Worship at 3pm.

Sun 12th is Easter Sunday. 10am Communion.

Tue 14th: 2pm Service at Ashcroft Nursing Home *** .

Thu 16th: 2pm Prayer Group.

Sat 18th: 10am Coffee Morning.

Sun 19th: Easter 2. 8am Communion, 10am Service of the Word. 3pm All Together Worship ** at Northcliffe Church.

Sat 25th: 2pm Mothers' Union Senior Citizens' Afternoon Tea with entertainment.

Sun 26th: Easter 3. 10am Communion, 2pm Thanksgiving & Blessing for Amelia W..

Thu 30th: 2pm Prayer Group.

May 2020:

Sat 2nd: 9am Table-Top Sale * and 10am Coffee Morning.

Sun 3rd: Easter 4. 8am Communion, 10.30am Family Service. 3pm The Ark ** at St John Ben Rhydding (but The Ark will probably be transferred to Sunday 10th because of the variation in Bank Holidays and the "Tour de Yorkshire" cycling event which will pass through Ilkley that day).

Thu 7th: Elections of local councillors and Police & Crime Commissioner - Church building in use as a polling station (but national news is saying that the elections will not take place because of Coronavirus).

Sun 10th: Easter 5. 10am Communion.

Mon 11th: 7.30pm Mothers' Union "The James Herriot Story" John Gilleghan.

Tue 12th: 2pm Service at Ashcroft Nursing Home *** (but we anticipate this will be cancelled because of Coronavirus precautions).

Thu 14th: 2pm Prayer Group.

Sat 16th: 10am Coffee Morning.

Sat 16th: John is on in-service training today.

Sun 17th: Easter 6. 8am Communion, 10am Service of the Word.

Sun 24th: Easter 7 (Sunday after Ascension). 10am Communion.

(No School Service on Tuesdays May 26th and June 2nd during the school half term holiday.)

Thu 28th: 2pm Prayer Group.

Sun 31st: Pentecost. 10am Communion. (We invite everyone to come to church wearing something red today!)

June 2020:

Sun 21st: Trinity 2. 8am Communion, 10am Service of the Word. 3pm All Together Worship ** at Northcliffe Church, and also on September 20th and November 15th.

July 2020:

Mon 6th: Mothers' Union Evening Meal Out. ****

Mon-Wed 6th-8th: John is on in-service training.

Tue 14th: 2pm Service at Ashcroft Nursing Home ***.

Tue-Fri 14th-17th: John may be on in-service training.

(No School Services on Tuesdays from July 21st to September 1st, during the school holidays. School Services resume on September 8th.)

Notes:

* To book a place at sales, call 07807 098174.

** Especially suitable for those with learning disabilities and their families and carers. The Ark usually runs at St John Ben Rhydding at 3pm on the first Sunday of each month except August, and All-Together Worship usually runs at Northcliffe Church at 3pm on the third Sunday of February, April, June, September and November.

*** Services at Ashcroft Nursing Home are planned for the following Tuesdays in 2020: January 14th, February 11th, March 10th, April 14th, May 12th, June 9th, July 14th, (None in August,) September 8th, October 13th, November 10th, December 8th (the second Tuesday of each month except August). They may be changed in various circumstances (for example illnesses, or a funeral being booked), so please check on this web site before coming. Ashcroft Nursing Home welcomes visitors to these services, but of course visitors have to follow the rules and sign in and out.  From 11th March Ashcroft is not allowing visitors, because of Coronavirus, so our services are suspended from March until further notice.

We are also open to the possibility of conducting church services in other places, and if community groups would like to take up this offer then please contact us.  For example, we used to conduct monthly services at the Eccleshill Community Hospital before it was closed down.

**** The Mothers' Union will also meet at 7.30pm on Mondays Sept 7 ("All in a day's work" Chris Helmes), Oct 5 ("A 60's Roadie" George Stewart), Nov 2 ("Hymns for all souls" John Hartley), and Dec 7 (Christmas Symposium). The Ladies of the Church will hold the Christmas Fair on November 14th.
